WHY I LOVED SHOOTING A WEDDING AT MONTPELLIER
Featuring Mike & Lucy’s incredible wedding at Montpellier Estate
APRIL | TULBAGHMontpellier estate is an incredible place for a wedding. It’s nestled in the Tulbagh valley, surrounded by open spaces with a mountain backdrop, hilltop chapel, vineyards and even has a forest. I was lucky enough to be part of a photography team that captured a wedding here in April and I want to share the four reasons I think this venue is great.
1. On-site venues for getting ready
Having easy access to both the bride and groom getting ready is win for an everyone, not just the photographer. It means no stress over traveling to a venue, no need for an extra car hire and having extra time for preparation photos. Montpellier has multiple buildings, all original farmsteads giving each party the space they need. Furthermore, each building furnished with immaculate vintage pieces and artworks making it a museum of interest.
2. Forest ceremony at Montpellier wedding venue
Ceremony locations need to match the magic of the moment – and Montpellier boasts such a spot! Tucked beneath an ancient oak tree, the ceremony is elevated by the natural surrounding beauty. It brings a sense of peace, which pairs perfectly with the ecstatic joy that comes with marrying your best friend. Honestly, Montpellier’s forest is one of my all time favorite ceremony locations.
3. Hilltop chapel
An extra bonus for weddings at Montpellier is their hilltop chapel. While it can also be used as a ceremony location, it’s best used for bridal party photos just as the sun starts to dip. With it being on top of a hill, it has the best view of the surrounding vineyards and mountains. One of my favorite aspects of this location is the giant tractor that Montpellier uses to transport the bridal party up to the chapel. It makes for a fun time, great photos and memories you will treasure for years to come.
4. Farmstead lawn for candid guest photos
Outside of Montpellier’s main farm house is a sprawling lawn with old trees. They use this area for canapés and relaxing after the wedding ceremony. The music and food creates a candid atmosphere, and mixed with the filtered light from the surrounding trees it creates a great recipe for images. On top of that, there is ample space for photographers to move around, meaning I can remain unobtrusive whilst still getting great shots.
These are the reasons I enjoyed shooting a wedding at Montpellier. Below are the rest of my favourite images from this beautiful day. If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to me – I’d love to chat.
You guys were so much fun at your wedding. It was a joy to shoot for you and I hope your new chapter is as beautiful as you are.
