A Reflection and Viewing of SA Weddings’ Styled Shoot: Love Through Every Lens

Nothing says “luxurious wedding” like the grand spaces of Steenberg Estate mixed with the spectacular artistry of some incredible wedding vendors.

I recently had the honour of creating some storied imagery for a styled shoot by SA Weddings, where I was a featured photographer. You can see the article here. It was an incredible experience with some amazing people. It all still feels surreal. Allora Bridal House provided the most jaw-dropping gown, while H&M was crafted by the talented Make-up Alchemist. Everything was then held together by the SA Weddings girls and a final touch of floral was added by Winterbird Events. Each team’s offerings came together to create exquisite and unique scenes that I got to animate with a narrative and capture.

When approaching a wedding, I like to remember that the images are viewed as a gallery and as individual shots. Both viewing experiences are important to me, and I consider them both when planning how to tell a couple’s love story. So, for this shoot I had the models move through several wedding settings to create the sense of a narrative: getting ready together in Steenberg’s manor house, walking through the gardens and then their private ceremony. The moody weather, immaculate grounds and high-ceiling rooms gave a sense of dramatic grandeur. I particularly enjoyed the tall window light and felt it complimented Allora’s dress perfectly. Even though the wedding was styled, the models were dating. This rarely happens and gave the photos a tangible authenticity. The emotions on their faces are real – the nerves, excitement and awe.

Giving attention to a couple’s whole story as well as their individual images is the value I want to offer at Curator.
