The whimsical wedding imagery of Natte Valleij

All my wedding photography at Natte Valleij has an enchanting quality to it. With its old manor house hidden by the oak trees and it’s secret gardens. I’m convinced that any wedding happening here will have a certain magic to it.

Having photographed several weddings here now, I’ve come to appreciate how much the estate offers. Some of my best work has been at this Stellenbosch secret gem. Its shade creates beautifully softened light throughout the sprawling, regardless of the season. It’s actually my favourite light to work with for editorial shots. The old dutch-styled architecture too, gives imagery a romantic atmosphere. But where I think Natte Valleij shines is when your wedding vision includes a touch of whimsey or a sense of the etherial. Three reasons why I love shooting weddings in Stellenbosch’s Natte Valleij Estate.

Natte Valleij’s gardens are the highlight for me as a photographer. There’s so many interesting nooks and crannies to use for storied imagery. Pair this with late afternoon light, filtering through the leaves, and you’ve got incredible, editorial light. Whether it’s the avenue of oak trees, the stone moon door or the pond, there’s always something to use to match my couple’s personality.

On-site, thought-through accommodation is a secret power for a wedding venue. What it means for me as a photographer is that I can spend more time bouncing between both parties for extra images. It also means that the space offers its own visual interest, so there’s greater opportunity for creative shots. The accommodation interiors at Natte Valleij are filled with curious angles and object. I’ve used many paintings and books to complement detail shots, or beautiful window light for portraits. It’s a space that always offers something.

The manor house at the estate fills wedding photography at Natte Valleij with a sense of deep romanticism. Its old architecture, antique filled interiors and high windows are a playground for me. Whether it’s a backdrop for family photos or a private couple moment, it’s a joy to shoot here.
